KEPHIS Advances Agricultural Development Through Strategic Collaboration with Kitui County
On 18th March 2026, KEPHIS Managing Director, Prof. Theophilus Mutui, paid a courtesy call to Kitui Governor H.E. Dr. Julius Malombe, accompanied by some members of management and staff.

The engagement focused on strengthening collaboration in the crackdown on fake and substandard seeds, promoting phytosanitary compliance, and advancing good agricultural practices across the county.
The Governor welcomed KEPHIS’ presence in Kitui, noting its critical role in ensuring quality assurance, plant health, and safe trade. To support this partnership, the County Government committed 10 acres of land at Kanyonyo for demonstration farms and 1.5 acres of land at the Kenya Water Institute for office and laboratory establishment. An MoU will be formalized to anchor this collaboration.

KEPHIS also distributed over 10,000 sweet potato vines and cassava cuttings, alongside over 45,000 tree seedlings, including macadamia, avocado, and grevillea, across Mutonguni, Matinyani, and Nzunguni–Kyangwithya East in Kitui County.

Through these initiatives, KEPHIS and the County Government are advancing climate-smart agriculture, improved productivity, and sustainable livelihoods for farmers in Kitui.
