KEPHIS Board and Senior Management Visit the Moyale Office

Today, KEPHIS Board Chairman Hon. Joseph M’Eruaki, Board Members, Managing Director Prof. Theophilus Mutui, and Senior Management visited the KEPHIS Moyale office, the only official border crossing between Kenya and Ethiopia and a vital one-stop facility. This office plays a crucial role in ensuring that all plant materials entering and leaving the Country comply with stringent phytosanitary standards, which enhances trade and promotes food and nutrition security.

During the visit, the team had a courtesy meeting with the Deputy County Commissioner of Moyale to discuss ways to collaborate to support KEPHIS's efforts at the border.The delegation also engaged with several stakeholders, including a multi-agency team consisting of representatives from the following institutions; KEPHIS, KRA, KEBS, the Agriculture Food Authority, Immigration, public health, Kenya Veterinary Services, COMESA trade facilitation department, Criminal investigation department and security agencies. The agencies are involved in collecting revenue and ensure compliance to; sanitary and phytosanitary requirements, import standards and specifications public health, security and immigration requirements. Key multi-agency teams are involved in joint inspection of consignments as a means to enhance trade facilitation in line with the World Trade Organization Trade Facilitation Agreement to which kenya is a signatory. In addition, the multi-agency team conduct regular joint border surveillance.
