KEPHIS Board Strengthens Oversight of Plant Health and Safe Trade Operations
On 27th August 2026, the KEPHIS Board of Directors undertook an oversight visit to KEPHIS Muguga, where they interacted with staff and toured key facilities supporting plant quarantine, tissue culture, plant health diagnostics, and pest and disease identification. The laboratory is a COMESA Regional Reference Laboratory for Plant Health.

On 28th August 2026, the Board visited KEPHIS JKIA, where they engaged with staff and toured phytosanitary inspection and certification operations that facilitate safe international trade. The visit included Airflo, where KEPHIS undertakes phytosanitary inspection of fresh produce, including cut flowers, destined for export markets. Kenya exports approximately 8 million rose stems every day, mainly to the European Union and other international markets, underscoring the importance of efficient phytosanitary services in maintaining market access for Kenya’s floriculture industry.

The visits highlight the Board’s oversight role in ensuring effective implementation of KEPHIS’ mandate to safeguard plant health, assure the quality of agricultural inputs and produce and facilitate safe trade.
