KEPHIS Enhances Inspector Capacity at JKIA to Support Safe Trade Facilitation
As part of its mandate to ensure plant health, promote food safety, and facilitate safe trade, the Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service (KEPHIS) conducted a specialized in-house training for its Import, Export, and Border Control (IEBC) inspectors stationed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on May 15–16, 2025.
The training focused on enhancing technical knowledge and operational compliance on phytosanitary certification requirements, with emphasis on avocado exports to key international markets such as China, India, and Malaysia. Inspectors were also taken through vapour heat and hot water treatment protocols for fruit consignments destined for Jordan and the European Union.
This capacity-building initiative is part of KEPHIS’ ongoing efforts to strengthen border inspection services, align export processes with international standards, and safeguard Kenya’s access to critical markets. KEPHIS remains committed to ensuring ensuring that Kenya remains a competitive and compliant player in the global agricultural trade.
