KEPHIS joined the world in celebrating World Environment Day 2026
It starts with bold action, answering the global call for Climate Action to protect and restore our environment.
Today 5th of June 2026, at Olkalou Grounds in Nyandarua County, KEPHIS joined the world in celebrating World Environment Day 2026 under the theme of 'A Global Call for Climate Action'. The Service, led by the Managing Director Prof. Theophilus M.Mutui demonstrated this commitment by donating 10,000 forest tree seedlings and 500 Hass avocado fruit seedlings to Nyandarua Community,a meaningful contribution towards a greener more resilient planet

This is inline with KEPHIS Financial Year 2025/26 commitment of growing 100,000 trees annually and partnering & collaborating with key stakeholders in liaison with the State Department for Forestry to plant and grow trees annually.
These seedlings represent more than numbers. Forest trees play a vital role in carbon sequestration, restoring degraded ecosystems, conserving biodiversity, and protecting vital water catchment areas. The avocado fruit trees support livelihoods, enhance food security, and promote sustainable land use, aligning environmental conservation with economic empowerment.
As an institution, KEPHIS continues to contribute to environmental protection by promoting the use of quality, certified planting materials, supporting afforestation and reforestation efforts, safeguarding plant health, and ensuring sustainable agricultural practices that protect our ecosystems.
The event was graced by the Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry, Dr. Deborah Mlongo Barasa; Hon.
