New Taskforce to Strengthen Kenya’s Agricultural Regulations

On 2nd May, the Inter-agency Technical Working Committee constituted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development Cabinet Secretary, Hon. Mutahi Kagwe convened at KEPHIS Headquarters in Karen for its inception meeting. 

The committee has been tasked with the view to review the existing legal and regulatory framework governing plant protection, seeds and plant varieties and agricultural produce and to provide practical recommendations to address the current gaps and enforcement challenges. 

The committee, comprises key representatives from KEPHIS led by KEPHIS Board Chairman Hon. Joseph M’Eruaki, MD Prof. Theophilus Mutui, PEST CONTROL PRODUCTS BOARD PCPB led by Mr. Njoroge Kagwe, Chairman of PCPB and its technical representatives together with representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development

This Committee reinforces the Government’s commitment to strengthening enforcement, safeguarding agricultural inputs, and ensuring food security and farmer protection. It also supports the agricultural pillar of the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), which prioritizes increased productivity, regulatory efficiency, and sustainable growth in the agriculture sector to uplift farmers and improve livelihoods.
